Groups

Groups are midweek spaces for belonging in community, and growing in faith. They’re new to the life of St Peter’s, but well established in the history of God’s church!

Acts 2 tells us that after the filling of the Spirit at Pentecost, the believers were formed into a vibrant group, regularly seeing wonderful things happen in God’s name, and eradicating need and lack by sharing and sacrifice.

It then says, in verses 46 and 47: Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favour of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.

They met together in the temple, as a large group for worship and teaching — for us that would look most like Sunday worship. And they met in homes, breaking bread and praising together — for us this looks like Groups.

You might have heard of, or been along to, Lent groups or Advent groups in the past - dedicated periods of gathering together beyond a Sunday for study, prayer, and time together. These groups are similar but all year round.

Each session will look a bit different, but will include some time for:

Welcome: catching up with one another, introducing newcomers, growing in community

Worship: a psalm, a song, or something creative, to help us fix our eyes on Jesus

Word: reading and discussing something from the Bible, maybe linked to the previous Sunday’s talk, so there’s space to unpack it and understand more together

Witness: praying for one another, for God’s help to put into practice what you’ve discussed

At the moment, we have 3 groups, and we’d love for you to be part of one. Already we have people connecting to a group who can’t make it on Sundays, so they’re helping us to reach out and grow our community, in number and depth of faith.

You can find out more about when they run, and sign up to give one a try, here.
